Cool things to come out of Wakefield: The Cribs, rhubarb… errrr that’s about it. But give Wakefield it’s due, it is also home to the wonderful Piskie Sits and their equally cool record label Philophobia Music who are due to release a compilation profiling the best of fresh Wakey talent. It’s entitled, ‘We Phopped Something in the Water’ (the h is silent don’tcha know) and is all set to be released on the 21st of July.
This track from it Viktoria Plzen is an indie anthem in the making thanks to a chorus that you can get pissed and shout along to when feeling loutish in your favourite indie club. It’s an air puncher alright. On other tracks, frontman Craig’s vocals often sit somewhere between Malkmus and slurry Steve Harley of Cockney Rebel fame whilst on this one Piksie Sits have adopted a cool New York Garage vibe showing them to be a diverse and interesting outfit.
They have an album out later this year but if you can’t wait until then you can purchase their earlier EP’s for the bargain price of just two of your English pounds here.
